Sport Relief 2014 #TeamHonkRelay

Team Honk 2014 blogger Relay

Sport Relief is back 21-23 March 2014, bringing the entire nation together to get active, have fun and raise some serious life-changing cash. I personally love Sport Relief, I always find it compelling and inspiring and I’m sure this year will be no different.

I’m delighted to say that this year I’m participating. I’m joining #TeamHonk for 2014 and their blogger led relay from Land’s End to John O Groats.

There’ll be walking, jogging, roller-skating, swimming, pushing buggies, jumping on trains, flying, cycling….you name it, it’s probably happening as over 150 bloggers participate to cover nearly 3000 miles in 6 weeks. Fairly incredible don’t you think.

In the UK, the money raised provides shelter to young people living on the streets and protection to those living with domestic abuse. It goes without saying that regular readers will know how passionately I feel about vulnerable young people living at risk on the streets and how passionate I am about raising awareness and fighting for freedom from male violence against women.

Of course, the money raised during Sport Relief doesn’t just help those in the UK. Internationally, the money goes towards providing clean, fresh water, vaccines from life endangering illnesses and helping children achieve an education and a future.

In the East Midlands, where I live, Sport Relief has helped with a variety of causes including New Futures.  New Futures is a service that provides specialist support to young women and children that have experienced sexual exploitation whilst living in residential care and under supervision of the care system. With the help of a team of therapeutic workers, New Futures help to build the confidence and self belief victims need to make positive changes for the future.

So, this year I’m getting off my backside and helping Sport Relief to raise the money they need to continue making a massive difference to the people in our society.

And I and the rest of #TeamHonk Nottingham will be covering our leg dressed as Robin Hood and his Merry Men – well, what else did you expect?!

Please offer your support, if you can, by sponsoring us here - we’ll do our best to impress on 25 and 26 February when we complete our leg from Grantham to Derby and everything raised will go to amazing causes both here in the UK and the world over.

Watch this space for more details, but in the mean time, a massive thank you from everyone involved with #TeamHonk Nottingham for your support.

This year #TeamHonk Nottingham involves the following fabulous Nottingham female bloggers:

Jen Stanbrook

The first ever Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games take place from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd March 2014. The public can join the fun and games by running, swimming or cycling their way to raising cash at over a thousand venues around the country, including the landmark events at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

As one of the biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. The money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people both at home in the UK and across the world.
